MATURE CLIENTS

MY FAVOURITE TYPE OF CLIENT

The truth is, it’s the mature clients who really NEED eyelash extensions and benefit from them the most, but many shy away, thinking it's a treatment for the youngsters only – you couldn’t be more wrong...

As we age, our lashes thin out, get shorter, lose pigment, and our eyes tend to become hooded and sleepy-looking. Those long lashes that used to open up our eyes are now short and stubby, hidden under a hood of heavy skin that seems to get heavier week by week. No matter what mascara you use, it makes no difference.

Take a look below at some before and afters of mature clients wearing eyelash extensions. Each set has been perfectly styled to suit that client's unique and mature features. The aim is to enhance the natural lashes with a safely applied soft, natural yet fuller look, designed to open the eyes and disguise the maturing features.

This is where eyelash extensions can transform the more mature client. However, you must have the correct set applied: the right length, weight, thickness, and most importantly, the styling to suit your personal features. To truly understand the needs of mature clients, you must study the subject and have experience working on multiple clients over the years, each with different features that often need disguising.

My mum was my inspiration and has been my best crash test dummy over the years for mastering mature clients. She has the worst lashes ever and the most tricky eye shape to work on. However, being a difficult client has made me the lash artist I am today and made most other clients seem like a breeze. As a more mature client, her lashes and eye shape have taught me all about the mature features and how we need to lash mature clients very differently from younger ones. Younger clients can get away with a bad set of lashes – their strong natural lashes and youthful look can disguise a bad set – but get it wrong on a mature client, and it can look horrific.

Take a look at this example of a mature client.

On the left, (the eye with the red "x") her lashes have been styled incorrectly: too black, too full, too heavy and too long in both the inner and outer sections, which draw her eyes down and make her look tired.

Now look at the other eye: correctly styled lashes, with height over the middle only to lift her eye and create a youthful, open-eye look.

I don’t know of another lash artist in the area who specialises in mature clients, which is why 90% of my client base are those over the age of 40 – because they cannot find anyone else who really understands this subject.

I complete a thorough consultation with all of my clients to understand their desired effect as well as assess their natural lashes. From here we agree on the types of lashes we will use as well as the over all look. I encourage my clients to show me images of the types of lash looks they like, so that I can get a detailed understanding of the look they want to achieve.

So come and visit me here at Canterbury Lash Extensions and let me show you how I can take years off you.

This is the gorgeous Toni who has lovely thick luscious lashes. However her naturally hooded eyes means that her natural lashes are completely covered by a fold of skin and even wearing mascara did not assist. Toni is the perfect candidate for lash extensions for this reason and if we look at the after we can see the difference. We kept the set very natural to compliment her natural beauty. By using the correct curl and lengths we applied extensions that extended out of her hooded skin and lifted upwards at the tips to create an open eye more youthful effect.

This is the wonderful Cheryl, who when I met her had some of the worst extensions as well as lash damage I had ever seen. Cheryl has naturally very short, fine, sparse, super delicate lashes. She wanted big, thick, full and black and her last lash artist gave her exactly that with no consideration to Cheryl's lash health. Cheryl came to me because her lashes hurt and she knew this wasn't how they were meant to feel. On inspection of Cheryl's lashes I could see the severe damage that had been caused over the months. She had multiple eyelash extensions applied to one natural lash, extensions glued to her eyelid where she had bald spots and severe irritation to her eyelids. Working with Cheryl was a lengthy journey to meet her expectations, as well as repair the severe damage caused to her natural lashes. Cheryl is now one of my best customers and dearest of friends.

This client came to me as a Trichotillomania sufferer, which is a condition that gives people strong urges to pull out their hair, including lashes. She was in recovery and wanted eyelash extensions but was worried about whether they would damage her natural lashes which were slowly growing back and very short and fine. By using ultra fine eyelash extensions I was able to safely lash her and give her a beautiful set of lashes. As you can see, we can sometimes work miracles with extensions.

This is my mum and one of my trickiest clients although you may never know looking at her finished lashes. Her lashes grow downwards, in tightly packed clumps, they are short and her inner lashes are none existent. She is also very deep set, so accessing her lashes is difficult as her eyes sit so far back in her head, so I feel as though I have to climb on top of her to lash her!!!

Her facial features also counteract each other, so when I try to bring her wide set eyes inwards I make her round eyes look even rounder. If I try to lift her droopy eye, again I make her eyes look rounder, but if I try to soften them by elongating them, I draw the eye out too much!!! So she is difficult. But she has taught me so much over the years which has been to the benefit of my other clients.

This is Amy and although she is not a mature client, she does have a hooded eye which is more typical of how our eyes age. The skin above the eyelid starts to descend and cover the

natural lashes.

This image shows perfectly how by using the correct curl and styling we can completely disguise hooded eyes and create lift.

If you are a client who has dreamt of an eyelid lift, then why not consider eyelash extensions first as a less extreme measure and see what a difference a correctly styled set of lashes can make.

I hope you've enjoyed looking at all the images of my mature clients. As you can see, eyelash extensions can make a significant difference, especially for those of us with more mature features.
